Amidst the hype of Christmas

December 24th, 2006 by linggesh

So it was the 23rd of December, just two sleeps away from Christmas day and it was all the reason for Brissy city to be coloured and decorated to bring in the mood. Fireworks were up on air daily a week before Christmas but I never had the chance to see it. Too lazy to move to South Bank(where the fireworks display took place) though being 10 minutes away, so I made sure that I go see it on the last day, hence I went to South Bank on the 23rd:)

Dazzling lights and Christmas songs were all over the place and heaps of families walking and laughing aloud at the demeanor of their little ones. Bedazzled with the surrounding, I walked, enjoying the moment and the chilly evening breeze looking around to see familiar faces.

HUH ! there he is, Erwin dude. Then came along Noy, Sop and Alice. Went there alone but met up with these cool people(no one walks alone in South Bank) that’s how it works here. So…it was time for dinner…”Where should we eat”. A cliché when it comes to gatherings.
To Ahmets we went. A fine Turkish restaurant with splendid interior!
Food was gooooood…not to mention the uninvited guest : Roach, which then made the girls lose their appetite. But we boys, Erwin and I…kept on going, savoring every bit left for us.
Suddenly there was this loud Arabic music and out of no where…a belly dancer appeared! Speak of HOT! It was BURNING!!! According to Erwin, every Saturday night a belly dancer will entertain the customers. HUH a fine trick of business:)

She was happily dancing and shaking around entertaining customers and she starting pulling people out to dance with her..then the horror struck. She pulled people sitting on the side of the tables. OH MY GOD!!!! I WAS SITTING AT THE SIDE!!!!
Man…what suspense… “Plz plz..dont pick me…” that was all I could think of…she was getting closer.., then she came towards our table. Looked at us..smiled. Did a lil bit of her thing…and went on…FIIUHHHH!!!

All smiles…what a night. Not to mention the awesome fireworks that went off reminding everyone of how close a celebration is. Colours after colours, blast after blast for at least 10 minutes. The night sky was illuminated with them. The five of us just sat on our table and enjoyed every bit of excitement there was to offer.

Truly, Christmas is one happy occasion for everyone. It was an amazing night, and now with just one sleep away, lets shout out : MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!

In forage of a farmer’s life

December 11th, 2006 by linggesh

As eager we were looking forward to a whole new adventure, we missed to see what lay ahead mouth wide open.

The march of the Mitremen (name taken after the road we live) towards becoming farmers from engineers were filled with great perseverance and an upthrusting vibe of motivation to gather as much money to last the summer. As comfortable as a journey could offer, we left to Bundaberg (name of destination) on a Tilt Train. Some slept and the others read. Some ignorantly looked at the beauty out the window, counting every cow and horse flabbergasted at the passing train. After 4 hours and 50 minutes, Bundaberg was reality. Upon arrival, we waited patiently for the van to take us to our ‘hotel’, The Grand Mid Point Hotel a.k.a a usual backpacker. Nothing more, nothing less.

A city they say Bundaberg is, but a mere fully furnished town it seemed to me. The following day was the peak of our adventure. The first day of recruitment. Anxious to get dirty, we arrived at an innocent looking tomato farm at about 5.30 a.m.All ready and fresh, we started picking away. What a fine day to be out in a farm picking tomatoes, the mind thought. Just as we were getting use to the job, the sun started to make an introduction. As it crawled higher and higher, the pain grew more and more. Legs were starting to ache, fingers getting sore and the backbone started to pinch as our mind was losing its control.
The urge of drinking and eating was getting stronger but our bags were way to far from us.

Come 12 noon, sun at the zenith. The doors of hell seem to open wide. The urge to scream out loud was unbearable. The innocence of the tomato farm was fading away, taking over by its evilness as each tomato filled our buckets.
Keep going! Keep going! The scream of supervisors.

What happen to lunch!!!
*Sorry, not today.*

The heat pierced through our skin dehydrating as it went. The mind and the body were unknown strangers. Both on its own, seeking peace.

3 p.m
“Alright! That’s it for today!”
A sentence we longed. The mind and body re-allied.
We looked at the kind soul who threw those words. A messenger from God. Late delivery. With what ever energy that was left, we walked towards our bags. The bottle of water seemed like gold. What a hard day, what a hard life. That was all the mind could think.

Next few days went by. Level of motivation deteriorating at a quicker pace. On the fourth day, the decision was made.
We are going home.
Before we did just that, a little sight-seeing was not too bad to end the journey. So off we went to Kelly’s Beach and Bundaberg Rum Distillery.

The journey back was a quiet one. All of us, on our own reminiscence off the past few days. Though what earned was not too bad for a three day work. Looking at life from another perspective is a good eye-opener I would say. Nevertheless, an experience to last a lifetime it was.
What an adventure. What a lesson.

Moral of the week: Study hard. Never be a farmer. Period.

Time…

October 22nd, 2006 by linggesh

Curtains of sadness and sorrow slithered through the still atmosphere. Embracing each nook as gravity took its charge. Waves of dirge and lament pulsated with each beat overwhelming the utter quietness. Moments passed, seconds ticked, tears dribbled its way down the dry, cold mountain. Disbelieve. Discontent. Ajar was the mind of each sole, catching up with the damage of time.

10 days? 10 minutes? 10 seconds?…who knew…only time could answer. Like a bullet racing to hit its target, it flew by inconsiderately winning the race. Leaving us trembling to accept faith. His call. His verdict. His decree.

Holding one another. Hugging in comfort. Crying. Reminiscing was all that was left. How did it happen? HOW? No one knew. No one could answer…but to sit in dismay was all we could. Shocked and perturbed the day went on.

Knowing the weakness, time still sped without mercy. Foraged through deeper and deeper of what that was left. The last goodbyes poured in. Tears flowed even faster. Nothing could stop the sudden rush. Neither the sweet scent of flowers nor the comforting words penned. Bitter were those times, as each second passed was a second closer to the final say.

How did it happen?…still unanswered. No one could. Time did not allow.
Faster and faster it fled. The box filled with sweet memories, when time was much patient and the days were much longer. The pain grew. To witness in much agony, carried by the heartless time, the moment has come. It was time for the final say. The final goodbye…

Hurt and pain beyond words can describe. The heart to let go was not present. Frustrated and anger took over. Why? Why?..non of the questions were answered. Only able to witness the truth as it went further. Nothing could be done. It was time to let go. To say goodbye. Further and further it drifted. It was the end…
Goodbye….

A year later….
Memories flashed. The power of reminiscing was great. Different colours of time could be seen. Sadness, Happiness, was all together.
Questions unanswered. Disbelieve and Discontent was still there…. Only time knew…Secretly keeping the answers.
How did it happen? Why?…..

September 26th, 2006 by linggesh

Its been a while now since i last bloged..
Having known many languages is indeed an advantage. What more, when u know one others don’t…HAHAHAHAHAH..it all comes down to fun fun and pure fun!!

The other day, i had thermodynamics tutorial and trust me, it can get pretty boring. Mainly its because you wouldn’t know how to answer the long-winded questions. Nevertheless, as i mentioned earlier, knowing a language others don’t will make your day. Coming from Malaysia and having the privilege to know the malay language is a blessing for me in Aussie. Such fun can it be bad-mouthing and teasing the aussies in malay. What more!! u can even do it right in front of them, all smiling but hitting really hard with those words!!! HAHAHAHA…

yea, so back to thermodynamics tutorial. It was just another boring tuesday session and my so-sweet tutor,Jenny Turner had to make it worse by asking us to do the questions..Can’t blame her though, she’s just doing her job. So, yea….me, Yuting and Ali spent the two hours having fun by calling her all sorts of names like Jenny Pemusing, PUSING!! PUSING!!!..trying to get her attention to help us throught the questions…hehehe..HOI !! MAU MATIKAH….CEPATLAH PUSING!!!!! (”,)

U shud try it…make use of the advantages u have against them!! hahah…it can be really fun…GO MAKE YOUR DAY!! USE LANGUAGES!!!….

MERDEKA !

August 30th, 2006 by linggesh

So…here I am starting my own BLOG…in conjunction with the celebration and the joyful splendor of the 49th year of independence of my beloved country…AUSTRALIA ooppps…I mean MALAYSIA!!
To all my fellow Malaysians, the time is once again here…where at this point of the year…we look back and laugh at all the silly moments we shared with our counterparts from JAPAN, BRITAIN, PORTUGAL and so forth. Such wonderful times go by real fast that what u see before a blink can be totally different after it. So along the time of occupation, we did have our ups and downs, riots and war…well I guess any country would have gone thru it at least once. Of course we had our list of heroes like MAT SALLEH, TOK JANGGUT, and my all time favourite RENTAP a.k.a penggoncang dunia, whom I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude for his brave guts in shakin’ off the british in Sarawak. But what pity, poor rentap did not live to see the britains’ flee.

Thanks to the power of reminiscing and of course exaggeration of the well renowned textbook authors, we had to stress out pitiful brain cells with heaps of so called facts and accomplishments by our forefathers in the past. All this for the sake of an ‘A’ printed with the smallest font available in a cert! COME on!! We deserve more than that!

But..yea…wat the heck! I cant deny the beauty of Malaysia. Marinated with various culture and believes simply makes it outstanding among the rest. hmm…speaking of marinating makes me hungry…
Well..yea back to the topic. Now that we’re standing where we are today….i am infact, proud to be a Malaysian. And for the first time ever in my life…I am seeing this 49 year old receive its recognition from afar….* isk* isk*…though physically I’m not able to be there for you my dear Malaysia, but my heart and soul is still in Bangsar…

CHeErs to all MALAYSIANS around the world!! SELAMAT HARI MERDEKA!! MALAYSIA BOLEH!!…isit still the same slogan?…correct me if im wrong.

The celebration with my newly found frens will only be on the 9th of September…so..im saving up the patriotic part of me to go all out on that day….huh!! MALAYSIA NITE ’06 in Brisbane….it better be gud.. haha

So..here we go…MERDEKA ! MERDEKA ! MERDEKA!
